Every engagement follows the same simple course: understand where you are, chart where you need to go and stay with you through execution.
Start a conversation. Tell us what you're facing: a launch, a growth push, a stalled initiative or a leadership gap. We'll talk plainly about whether HI Executive Leadership is the right fit.
Get your bearings. We take a close look at where you are today: your goals, your team, your plans and what's getting in the way.
Chart the course. Together we agree on scope, priorities, milestones and how we'll measure progress. You know exactly what we're doing, and for how long.
Move forward. We stay with you through execution, leading the work, keeping it on schedule and building your team's ability to carry it forward.
Built for leaders with a mission and a deadline
Founders who need an experienced operator to turn a growing business into a well-run one.
Small and mid-size business owners facing growth, change or a leadership gap.
Nonprofit and public-sector program leaders who need programs planned, delivered and reported on with discipline.
If you need senior leadership at a moment that matters, but not a full-time hire, we should talk.
Veteran-led discipline, applied to your mission
HI Executive Leadership is a service line of Helmer Industries, a veteran-owned business based in San Diego, California. Our approach is grounded in the discipline, mission focus and service ethic of military leadership, applied to the practical realities of growing businesses and mission-driven organizations.
Mission focus: we start with where you need to go, and keep every plan pointed there.
Clear ownership: every milestone has a name next to it.
Plain-spoken accountability: no jargon, no shelf-ware reports, just steady work that gets done.
Dennis Helmer brings 12 years of program leadership and holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He has stood up multiple engineering programs from the ground up and led teams of 5 to 50. He started HI Executive Leadership because startups and young companies often need seasoned leadership before they can afford a full-time executive or program director. Fractional leadership closes that gap.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an engagement last?
It depends on what you need. Some engagements are a focused effort, such as a program reset or a launch, while others provide ongoing fractional leadership over several months. We agree on scope and duration up front and revisit them together as your needs change.
How is pricing structured?
Pricing is based on the scope, time commitment and length of the engagement, and we agree on it before work begins, so there are no surprises. Reach out for a conversation about your needs and we'll recommend an approach that fits.
Do you work remotely or on-site?
Most work is done remotely. Travel isn't typically included, but it can be arranged with reasonable compensation.
How is a fractional executive different from a consultant?
A consultant typically advises and hands over recommendations. A fractional executive is embedded with your team and leads the work, owning outcomes, making decisions within an agreed scope and staying through execution.
Is fractional leadership only for organizations in crisis?
The primary focus is helping new and emerging companies meet executive-level needs on an ongoing basis. That said, Dennis also has solid experience rescuing troubled programs and kick-starting new initiatives, so shorter targeted engagements are possible.
